Czech President Vaclav Klaus´s speech over Havel´s coffin on Wednesday was completely impersonal while people came to bid farewell to Havel not becuase he was the first post-war democratic president, but because of him personally, Petr Honzejk writes in Hospodarske noviny today.
True, the Klaus-Havel relationship was not simple, it sometimes crossed the limits of hostility, Honzejk writes.
He says Klaus presented Havel mainly as a product of his time, which reflected Klaus´s deep persuasion of that the personality is not formed form inside, but that it is a mere product of circumstances, which is a Marxist persuasion.
Yet, Klaus´s speech was decent. He did not let his shadow to swallow him nor has he crossed it. Klaus cannot be blamed for what he is like. He is simply such as circumstances have created him, Honjzek writes with some irony.
Martin Komarek writes in Mlada fronta Dnes that Klaus´s speech was one of his best in the presidential office. His words were anything but an appeal for Havel being sent to a museum.
Klaus said he wishes that the era started with November 1989 and connected with the name of Vaclav Havel do not end, Komarek recalls.
He says Havel´s critics have gone silent after his death and grief can be seen and words of praise heard everywhere.
A decent person must concede for that Havel was a great man. Vaclav Klaus also did it, Koamrek writes.
Feeling grief to accommodate the state is nonsense, but Vaclav Havel was the supreme representative of the Czech state that is bidding him farewell in the only way it is capable of, Martin Zverina writes in Lidove noviny.
That is why criticism of how the late president is treated is out of place. He who does not want to be sad need not do so because state mourning is unenforceable, Zverina writes.
He says official parting with the creator and symbol of a political regime is necessary.
People´s reactions show that they accept it similarly like people in 1937 when first Czechoslovak president Tomas Garrigue Masaryk died, Weiss writes. Author: CTK
